A Statement From Lois Spillman
“To My Neighbors, Friends and Fellow Kansans,
This website and our work is dedicated to one thing – convincing Kansas Senator Roger Marshall to drop his support for a scheme advanced by hard-leftwing Democrats and to put the interests of the working families and small business of Kansas first in his thinking and actions.
Senator Marshall is a prime mover of legislation that he calls the “Competitive Credit Card Act” but that most observers refer to as the Big Box Bill. While the bill is wrapped in all the trappings of a conservative policy, it is the brainchild of huge corporations with no interest in helping struggling families or small businesses.
The reason I am passionate about the “Big Box Bill” is because I can see firsthand how this could affect families. I know many families who put all their monthly household expenses on credit cards to receive the rewards and cash back. If the Marshall bill is enacted, those reward programs and cash-back arrangements will end – all that money will end up in the pockets of out-of-state corporations.
I personally have family members who have had debit cards hacked since the last Durbin amendment (2010) went into effect on debit cards. The Big Box Bill is an extension of that horrible and destructive law. Simply put, it removed rewards programs from the debit cards and reduced security.
This bill will not help Main Street. Most small businesses won’t qualify for it due to low volume use. This bill will help Big Business, the very ones Senator Marshall says he’s fighting against. Big box companies back this bill because they stand to KEEP billions in fees!
My main concern is WHY is Senator Roger Marshall working with the number two Democrat Senator? Marshall is claiming to be a conservative yet teaming up with one of the most leftist Senators. In the current very partisan climate of DC, the Democrats have shown they cannot be trusted.
I vowed to hold Roger Marshall accountable to the people of Kansas. This is the first step. Could this be his trial balloon? If he is choosing to work with Dick Durbin and even trying to attach a bill such as this to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), what else will he try? Is this so important and vital to a handful of corporations, that Senator Marshall would try to push it into law by hiding behind our sons and daughters in the military service?
Please, learn about the true nature of the Big Box Bill. And once you have, please contact Senator Marshall and demand he remove his name and all support for this blatant rip-off of Kansas families.”

Lois is particularly concerned about the potential implications of the “Competitive Credit Card Act”, also known as the Big Box Bill. She sees this legislation, currently supported by Kansas Senator Roger Marshall, as a threat to the financial wellbeing of families who rely on credit card rewards and cash back programs to stretch their budgets. Lois fears that if the bill is passed, these beneficial programs will be scrapped, benefiting large corporations at the expense of everyday Kansans.
Lois is an active voice in her community. She uses her platform to hold elected officials accountable and to advocate for policies that benefit the people of Kansas. She urges her fellow Kansans to educate themselves about the true nature of the Big Box Bill and to demand that Senator Marshall withdraw his support for this legislation.
